January 1, 2002 was the day in history that the euro became the monetary coin of choice in the European Union.

For decades the European Union has been attempting to introduce a common currency for all of the countries in the European Union to simplify conversions between countries.
In 2002 it finally happened. The euro replaced all the currencies of the individual countries.
It took some getting used to.
Some people still think in the old currencies, which is quite a feat considering all the inflation that has took place since at least 2 decades ago!
