In 1976 the Cydonia region of Mars was documented by 2 spacecrafts called from the Viking Program. The terrain seemed quite desolate and not very exciting for anyone who was not a scientist at NASA.
Until on July 25, 1976 the Viking 1 made a photograph that surprised the world with having a recognizable face depicted on the surface of the red planet.Though later more clear photographs showed this “face” to be somewhat less face-shaped, our imaginations can still find facial features.
Proof of how even Mars is not save from the psychological phenomena called pareidolia where humans have the urge to see faces in shapes that show features that we associate with face shapes.
