Red Planet Day

🔴

Red Planet Day celebrates the anniversary of the launch of the Mariner 4 spacecraft on November 28, 1964 to fly by Mars, also known as the Red Planet.
It’s mission was to collect data, which included nice close ups from the surface of Mars that allowed us to see what that little dot in the sky looked like up close.A collection of photo’s can be seen in the extensive archives of NASA at https://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/imgcat/html/mission_page/MR_Mariner_4_page1.html
We recently got photo’s in full color with better resolution.
But for first photo’s in the years before internet and even before disco, these photo’s were far out fab!

“Mars is there, waiting to be reached.”
