World Wide Web Day

In the beginning of this month in 1991 the very first website was launched
on the World Wide Web.

The internet already existed quite a while, but the browsable interface with websites that can be visited by browsers was developed by Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau.
The World Wide Web Project was in development since approximately 1989.
In 1990 the first HTML browser named WorldWideWeb was developed.
Then since 1991 the 3 W’s would make it’s way to more and more computers.

The 90ies was a decade in which many other means of connecting computers would gradually become less popular.
The World Wide Web was what even computer illiterates could use for chatting strangers and posting cute cat pictures.

“The Internet is just a world passing around notes in a classroom.”
(Jon Stewart)
