✝️

Not the same date each year:

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, the 40-day period of reflection and sacrifice leading up to Easter Sunday.
It takes place 46 days before Easter, so you can mark your calendars for the second Wednesday of February or the first day of March, depending on the lunar cycle.

How it is celebrated:

During Ash Wednesday celebrations, priests will trace the sign of the cross on your forehead with ashes made from last year’s Palm Sunday palms. Talk about recycling!
And, since 10-step skin care routines are so hot right now, you will be glad to know that ashes have some amazing benefits for the skin. The minerals in ash can help detoxify, exfoliate your skin and reduce inflammation, giving you a fresh start for the season. Just imagine, a day of spiritual reflection, combined with a spa day for your skin!

So, why ashes?

According to tradition, the ashes symbolize that all we are is dust in the wind.
The ash-ritual is based on a biblical tradition where people would put ashes on their heads to show their humility and contrition.
Fast forward a few centuries and Ash Wednesday became a way for people to physically show their commitment to a season of self-improvement and spiritual renewal.
But, it’s not all doom and gloom, Many people find comfort in the reminder that we are all connected and part of something greater.

But what if you don’t want to cover yourself in ashes?

There are plenty of alternative ways to celebrate Ash Wednesday.
Some folks choose to abstain from certain foods or luxuries, others opt for acts of service or charity, and some just take a moment to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the future.
If you are less spiritual but still believe in being mindful you could take a day of self-care, volunteer, or simply take time to reflect on what’s important to you.

β›ͺ
Ash Wednesday is a day for self-reflection, spiritual renewal, and a little bit of skincare.
Whether you choose to observe it or not, the important thing is to find what works for you and your soul.
And, if all else fails, just remember that there’s always next year.
