Celebrate the worst toys you’ve ever experienced. π
This unofficial holiday celebrates all the toys that were too expensive, too annoying, or just plain stupid.
If you’ve ever had a disappointing toy experience, then December 16th is the day for you!
Why celebrate such a bizarre and seemingly negative holiday?
Because stupid toys are not just bad, they are so bad that they are actually kind of funny.
Sometimes it’s good to laugh at ourselves and our past mistakes.
What makes a toy stupid and not just bad?
A Stupid Toy is a toy that either the parents don’t like for some reason.
Like it’s too expensive or too messy or simply not as cool as advertised.
These toys are not average or even good, they are just plain stupid.
It’s the toy that you regretted buying as soon as you got it home
It’s the toy that falls apart after one use, the one that’s too loud or too messy, the one that promises hours of fun but delivers nothing but disappointment.
These are the toys that you would never want to receive as a gift, but secretly laugh about when you see them on the store shelf.
The Origin of Stupid Toy Day
Stupid Toy Day seems to have popped up around 2016, or maybe even 2013.
Although it may have started as “Barbie and Barney Backlash Day”, a holiday created by Ruth and Thomas Roy from Wellcat in 2003. This day allowed parents to refuse to play with toys they didn’t like and instead opt for things like scientifically accurate dinosaurs or simply play catch with the plain and trusty ball.
It seems likely that these holidays are one and the same, with “Stupid Toy Day” being a catchier name that includes all types of disappointing toys.
How to celebrate Stupid Toy Day
So, how can you celebrate Stupid Toy Day? It’s simple, really.
You can start by raiding your attic or basement for those forgotten toys, the ones that made you cringe or laugh uncontrollably.
You can also browse online for some of the most absurd toys in history and share them with your friends and family.
Spend the day reminiscing about your disappointing toy experiences or go all out and organize a Stupid Toy Day party. Encourage your friends to bring their own stupid toys and have a competition to see who has the stupidest toy.
Create a “Toy Hall of Shame”.
You can also take this opportunity to donate your unwanted toys to a children’s charity, who knows, maybe someone else will find joy in your stupid toy.
Don’t forget to share your experiences and lots of pictures on social media with the hashtag #StupidToyDay to share the fun with the whole world,
Celebrate the weird, the disappointing and the downright stupid toys with your loved ones, or even better, meet new people who share your love for ridiculous toys.
And if anyone asks you why you’re celebrating such a bizarre holiday, just tell them that Wild Calendar gave you permission to do so.
Happy Stupid Toy Day!
