A national holiday, but also a day to celebrate Bermudas ultimate symbol of business casual attire: shorts! .🩳🇧🇲
Bermuda Day started as Empire Day in 1902 and was held on May 24 to commemorate the death day of queen Victoria.
Empie Day was renamed to Commonwealth Day in 1958 to celebrate the increasing independence from Britain.
Common Wealth Day was renamed to Bermuda Day in 1979 to shift the focus of the holiday to the celebration of Bermuda’s heritage and culture.
Since 2018, Bermuda Day was moved to the last Friday of May creating an extra long weekend to celebrate the start of summer and of course wearing bermuda shorts.
