Raise your glasses and get ready to fizz the day away because January 14th is Booch Day!
This unofficial food holiday is dedicated to the drink that’s taken the world by storm – kombucha.
And what better way to celebrate this probiotic-packed beverage than with a day full of fermented fun!

This fizzy drink is made by fermenting sugared black tea with a so-called โ€œtea mushroomโ€.
This tea-mushroom is not technically a mushroom  but more a clump of special yeast and bacteria that create a nice healthy probiotic-rich beverage from the tea you give it.
This fermented tea is said to have health benefits such as improved digestion, a stronger immune system, and even boosted energy levels.
Some people claim it cures everything from aging to cancer to even mad zombie disease.
Which of course is pseudoscience. The real science that kombucha does is give your gut flora extra friends to keep your tummy happy and healthy. Which is pretty good โ€œmagicโ€ on itself.

Booch Day was created by KeVita in December 2018 as a way to celebrate the rise of this fermented tea.
Kombucha has been around for centuries, but itโ€™s only in recent years that itโ€™s gained popularity as a healthy alternative to sugary drinks.

But, what are the pros and cons of drinking kombucha?
On one hand, it is packed with probiotics, antioxidants, and vitamins, making it a healthier alternative to sugary drinks.
On the other hand, some may find the taste a bit “acquired” And if you buy pre-bottled booch, the price tag can be steep.

And what about making your own kombucha?
It can be a fun and creative process, allowing you to experiment with different flavors and ingredients.
The pros of making your own kombucha include being able to control the flavor, saving money, and having the satisfaction of brewing your own drink.
On the other hand, it takes at least a week before you have some drinkable kombucha.
It can also be a bit of a science experiment, with the potential for contamination and other unwanted consequences if the brewing process is not done correctly.

So, how do you celebrate Booch Day in style?

  • If you have never tasted kombucha before, get some in different flavors and try them all.
  • Host a kombucha tasting party and compare different brands and flavors. Or better, make cocktails!
  • Attend a kombucha brewing workshop or class and learn how to make your own safely at home.

Donโ€™t be a sourpuss, grab your favorite kombucha, and celebrate this bubbly food holiday in style!
Just remember to booch responsibly!
