Brumalia is an ancient Roman festival in anticipation of the winter solstice festival Saturnalia.
Brumalia was essentially a harvest festival in worship of Demeter, Saturn and Bacchus.
Brumalia would start approximately on November 24 and lasted until the festival of Saturnalia started.
The manner of celebration could vary from moderate daily celebrations to regular orgies, depending on personal style of worship. You could say that those who did not party wisely during Brumalia would risk on missing out on the Roman equivalent of Christmas.
So, enjoy with caution, because there is a really long party ahead!
In the past centuries Brumalia is celebrated less because of sanctions from Christian churches.
But people still wish each other the traditional “Vives annos” greeting, which means “Live for years”.
