January 6th is Cuddle Up Day, a holiday that encourages people to embrace the warmth and comfort of cuddling up to a good friend.
The holiday was created by an anonymous party animal to promote the health benefits of cuddling and to encourage people to strengthen their bonds.
And of course it’s a way to combat the cold and gloomy winter weather.

Cuddling has been found to have many benefits, the act of exchanging affection between creatures who have skinship releases oxytocin, one of the finest happy hormones our bodies can make.
Oxytocin makes us feel happy and warm inside.
It lowers our blood pressure and \reduces stress and anxiety, promotes feelings of safety and security, and strengthens emotional bonds.

To celebrate Cuddle Up Day, there are several things you can do:

  • Cuddle up with a loved one: Get comfy, put on your soft clothes, take some time squeezing the sads out of each other and fill up with happies instead.
  • Cuddle up with a pet: Animals are experts at cuddling. Their pure honesty makes every cuddle a high quality one!
  • Cuddle up with a stuffed animal: Get your favorite stuffed animal, or all of them. Watch tv together with a comfy blanket. Blankets need love too!
  • Organize a cuddle-in party: Invite friends over for a cuddle party, where everyone can cuddle up together. Why not make a pillow and blanket fort as well? Make it cozy!
  • Cuddle up with yourself: Take some time to cuddle with yourself, by taking a warm bath or reading a book in bed. You are the person closest to yourself after all.
