Flitch Day

When:
🗓️ July 19

Where:
🌐 Everywhere

Since:

💑

An old English tradition promised married couples that if after a year and one day after their marriage, they could swear that they had no regrets about their marriage, they would be rewarded with a flitch of bacon.
A flitch was a piece of bacon about the size of half a pig.
Often the couples were required to bring their neighbours along as witness to be sure they didn’t just come for the bacon.
Afterwards the couple would be paraded around town proudly carrying their prize.

The “Flitch Day” holiday is merely a remembrance of this old tradition.
So you can fill it in with any part of the custom you like.
Enjoy real or mock bacon. (Pigs prefer the mock bacon)
Put couples on trial to see if their relationship is still good.
Have a jury decide if they’re arguments are interesting enough. (Reward good stories, having fun is what counts most)
