Ice cream is cool!

Ice cream is a frozen dessert made from a mixture of cream, sugar, and flavorings.
It’s believed to have originated in China around 200 BC, but the modern version we know and love today was popularized in Europe in the 18th century.
Since then, ice cream has become a worldwide favorite with endless flavors and variations.

This holiday is so good that it should be illegal instead of official.
But that is why it is both!
There is both an official Ice Cream Day and a rogue unofficial Ice Cream Day to reflect the dual nature of ice cream.
The treat is both a sweet calorific dessert but also can be a healthy source of protein and vitamins.
It all depends on how you make it. What canโ€™t you do with ice cream?

The origin of the Ice Cream Days

Now, the official holiday in July, National Ice Cream Day, was designated by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 as a way to celebrate this beloved dessert and its importance to the American economy.
The holiday is celebrated on the third Sunday in July each year and is the perfect excuse to indulge in your favorite ice cream flavors.
Of course it couldnโ€™t stay a national day forever. Ice cream knows no bounds or borders.
So we might as well call it International Ice Cream Day or just Ice Cream Day.

The origin of December 13 Ice Cream Day may be a magical mystery, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate it with just as much enthusiasm!
Some say it was created by a group of rogue ice cream enthusiasts who were tired of waiting for July to roll around again and wanted an excuse to indulge in their favorite treat during the holiday season.
Legend has it that they made a pact with the Ice Cream Fairy and swore to celebrate the creamy goodness of ice cream every December 13th.
Others say it was simply a happy accident that caught on.
Whatever the reason, we’re happy to have another excuse to enjoy ice cream!

How to celebrate Ice Cream Day

There are countless ways to celebrate Ice Cream Day, but here are a few ideas to get you started.
First and foremost, you have to decide what kind of ice cream you want to indulge in.
Do you want to keep it simple with a classic vanilla or chocolate?
Or do you want to get a little crazy and try something new, like sea salt caramel or avocado?
Why not be naughty and try multiple flavors for maximum fun!
Once you’ve made your flavor selection, it’s time to get creative with the toppings.
Do you want sprinkles, hot fudge, whipped cream, or all of the above?
The choice is all yours!

You can organize an ice cream social with friends and family or even host an ice cream-themed party.
And don’t forget to pair your ice cream with your favorite beverage, whether it’s a classic glass of milk, a nice warm tea, or a more adult-friendly option like a boozy milkshake.

Safety tips

While ice cream is a delicious treat, it’s important to enjoy it safely.
We don’t want anyone getting brain freeze or anything like that! So, be sure to take your time when enjoying your ice cream, and maybe even take some breaks in between bites.
And if you have a dairy allergy or lactose intolerance, be sure to choose a non-dairy or lactose-free option.
You can also make ice cream healthier by choosing low-fat or sugar-free varieties and adding lots of  fresh fruit or nuts for added nutrition.

Or, you know, just say “oh, fudge it” and go all out with the whipped cream and sprinkles. No judgment here!

In conclusion

Ice Cream Day is a delicious and fun holiday that gives us all an excuse to indulge in our favorite frozen treats.
So go ahead,- there’s always room for ice cream!
And if anyone asks you why you’re celebrating this holiday twice a year, just tell them that Wild Calendar gave you permission to do so.

A celebration that’s not too bizarre
Two holidays to enjoy our favorite treat
One official, one that’s a bit of a feat

July’s third Sunday, that’s the day
The one we all know, come what may
But December 13, a mystery indeed
A chance for ice cream lovers to feed

It’s okay to celebrate both, it’s no crime
Double the ice cream, double the time
Indulge in flavors, sweet and bold
We’ll never have too much, or so we’re told

So let’s grab a scoop, or maybe two
And enjoy some ice cream, it’s what we’ll do
Whether official or a mystery, it’s all good
As long as we’re enjoying it, as we should.
