The Origin of Industrial Workers of the World Day
On June 27, 1905, the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) was established in Chicago, Illinois, USA as an international awareness day to unite workers from various industries, backgrounds and races to overcome the capitalist system’s divisions.
The IWW goals are to realize fair pay and to end abusive practices.
How You Can Participate
- Learn about the development of labour unions, workers’ rights and the issues faced by industrial employees.
- Support local and worldwide labor unions, worker activist groups and grassroots organizations.
- Make the stories and struggles of industrial workers known through social media, writing and public speaking.
- Attend or organize events dedicated to workers’ rights.
- Shop responsibly. Buy from companies that stand for fair labor practices and respect for workers’ rights.
Look for certifications like Fair Trade which ensure the ethical treatment and fair wages for workers involved in the production process.
