No Kids, No Kidding!

International Childfree Day is here to remind us that some people are childfree of their own choice and that is 100% okay!
In fact, itโ€™s more than okay, itโ€™s fantastic!
Youโ€™ve made a choice thatโ€™s right for you and that deserves a celebration.

This day is a worldwide celebration for those couples who have faced criticism, ridicule and rejection because they chose to opt out of parenthood in favor of following the road less diapered.
Itโ€™s not a phase, itโ€™s a lifestyle!

Family Planning is Not Childโ€™s Play

Kids are great, just not for everyone.
Bringing a tiny human into the world isn’t a decision to be taken lightly. Itโ€™s not like choosing between latte or espresso. Itโ€™s a lifetime gig!
Starting a family is a life-altering decision and it shouldn’t be made because of some outdated script or bingo card of life goals.
And children should always be in a family where parents have been looking forward to having children and are fully prepared to provide for them.

To choose wisely is to choose responsibly. Itโ€™s as simple as that.
Maybe some of us are just born to be cool aunts and uncles.

The Origin of International Childfree Day

International Childfree Day was initially created as โ€œNon-Parents’ Dayโ€ by the National Alliance for Optional Parenthood in 1973 to cheer up everyone whoโ€™s faced the endless โ€œbut why no kids?โ€ interrogations.
But also of course to raise awareness about why carefully considering to have kids or not is a pretty wise thing to do for both their own lives, the lives of the potential children and especially for the future of our entire planet. Having children has consequences. Consequences that stretch as far as having an impact on society and even the environment depending on the amount of humans we create and how they are raised.

In 2013, the name got a much-needed upgrade to International Childfree Day.
A title that sounds a lot more fresh and sparkly and better reflects the empowerment and fulfillment many find in this life choice.

Celebrating Childfree Choice: Fun, Freedom and The Future

Soโ€ฆ how do you celebrate International Childfree Day?
First, pop the bubbly โ€“ because you can!
Spend your day with activities that might otherwise be a bit challenging with a toddler in tow.
Dive into a book uninterrupted. (pillow fort optional but definitely recommended)
Enjoy a quiet meal at a restaurant where chicken nuggets aren’t on the menu.
How about a peaceful day in the great outdoors, soaking in a 100% tantrum-free serenity?
You could also just pack your bags, book your tickets and take a spontaneous trip to somewhere youโ€™ve always wanted to go. After all, whoโ€™s going to stop you? You donโ€™t have to arrange for a babysitter!
Or you could have a “No Kids Allowed” party with your fellow childfree friends complete with adult beverages, mature conversations and maybe a movie marathon where no movie needs to be dubbed in your countriesโ€™ language.
The world is your childfree playground! And if anyone gives you a sideways glare about your carefree childfree celebration, just tell them that Wild Calendar said it’s cool and invite them to join the fun.

Kids? Maybe Later

And letโ€™s not forget the most important part!
International Childfree Day is a great day to talk about what types of birth control are easy to use, safe to use and environmentally friendly. Ensuring everyone has the information they need to make informed choices about their bodies and futures.
Because letโ€™s face it, when it comes to family planning, itโ€™s better to be safe than sorry!
From implants to IUDs, there’s a veritable plethora of choices out there, all designed to help you live your best childfree life.

Cheers to Choice

So, hereโ€™s to celebrating the choice to have children whenever you feel actually ready for them.
Even if that means never.ย
Remember that ย โ€˜familyโ€™ has more than one definition and itโ€™s 100% okay to go your own way.
Go forth, celebrate boldly and enjoy every second of your wonderfully unencumbered journey.
May your day be filled with joy, freedom and absolutely no diaper changes.
Happy International Childfree Day!

โ€œFolks, I don’t trust children. They’re here to replace us.”
