“There may be fairies at the bottom of the garden.
There is no evidence for it, but you can’t prove that there aren’t any, so shouldn’t we be agnostic with respect to fairies?”
(Richard Dawkins)

Hold on to your fairy dust, for it’s International Fairy Day where we celebrate all things sparkly, fluttery, and magical!
Celebrated every June 24th, this whimsical holiday was created by artist Jessica Galbreth to honor the magical creatures that have captivated our imaginations for centuries.

Why this date?

International Fairy Day takes place on June 24th, and there’s a good reason for that – it’s the height of summer, when flowers are in full bloom and the air is thick with the sweet scent of ๐ŸŒธ.
It’s the perfect time to celebrate the magical creatures that are said to inhabit our gardens and meadows.

Why celebrate fairies?

The purpose of International Fairy Day is to celebrate these mythical creatures and to show appreciation for the magic and mystery they bring into our lives.
Fairies have been a part of human folklore for as long as we can remember. From the delicate and mischievous fairies of European folklore to the powerful nature spirits of indigenous cultures, these magical beings have always been a source of wonder and enchantment.

So, what exactly are fairies? Well, the definition of fairies can vary greatly depending on who you ask.
Some people view them as tiny, delicate creatures with delicate wings and a mischievous streak. Others see them as powerful nature spirits, capable of wielding immense power.
Old tales of folklore even spoke about a broad definition of the โ€œfaery folkโ€ that included many shapes and sizes of โ€œfaeriesโ€. From the tiny butterfly-winged beauties to the sturdy build trolls and even large hulking creatures.
The history of fairies is long and complex, with various cultures having their own interpretations and beliefs about these creatures.

How can one go about befriending a fairy?

If you’re thinking about befriending a fairy, there are pros and cons to consider.
On one hand, they are said to bring luck, joy, and happiness wherever they go.
On the other hand, fairies can be mischievous and even dangerous if crossed.
Fairies are said to be incredibly fickle, so you never know when they might take off and leave you hanging, literally!

There’s no surefire way to do it, it might depend on your local folkloric customs.
Some say that leaving offerings of flowers and sweet treats in your garden can help attract these magical creatures.
Others say that simply sitting quietly in nature and listening to the sounds of the forest can be enough to attract a fairy’s attention.
Fairies are said to be great at granting wishes, they can make your flowers bloom brighter and your gardens grow taller, and they’re always up for a good party.
Of course, there are also a few downsides to being friends with a fairy. For one thing, fairies are said to be incredibly mischievous, so you never know what kind of trouble you might get into!
