Wear overalls, stomp on digital mushrooms, and unleash your inner plumber! 🕹️
Let’s Jump In!
From his humble beginnings as Jumpman in Donkey Kong to his modern-day adventures in Super Mario Odyssey, Mario has been entertaining gamers for over 35 years.
That’s longer than most video game characters have even existed!
How It Began:
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, Japan, to be precise, there was a company called Nintendo. And like all great companies, they needed a mascot. So they came up with a little plumber named Mario, who, by the way, was originally called “Jumpman”.
Mario’s first gig was in a game called Donkey Kong, where he had to rescue his girlfriend from a giant, rampaging barrel-throwing gorilla.
In 1985, things escalated quickly when he returned in Super Mario Bros, where he got a better name, a brother by his side and they fought off evil turtles, mushroom monsters, and even a fire-breathing dragon.
Super Mario Bros. became a massive hit and sold over 40 million copies. That’s more than the population of Australia!
And just like any self-respecting celebrity, Mario went on to star in a ton of sequels and spin-offs, like Super Mario Bros. 2, 3, World, 64, and many more. He even became a go-kart racer and a brawler.
And now, over 40 years later, Mario is still going strong. He’s one of the most recognizable and beloved characters in video game history.
It just goes to show you that no matter how many evil turtles and mushroom monsters you face, you can still come out on top if you have a good plumber by your side!
The Origins Of The Holiday
Mario Day was created by Mario Fascitelli of Albuquerque, NM. Mario Day takes place on March 10th every year because the date looks like “Mario” when written as “Mar10”.
That’s a good enough reason!
How To Celebrate:
Now, let’s talk about how you can celebrate Mario Day.
One option is to have a Mario-themed party, complete with mushroom-shaped snacks, Piranha Plant decorations, and a Mario costume contest.
Or, you could challenge your friends to a Mario game tournament and see who comes out on top.
You could bake a Mario-themed cake, complete with a fondant Mario jumping over a fondant flagpole.
Or, you could even make your own Mario level using one of the many game-making tools out there.
The only limit is your imagination (and maybe the amount of time you have on your hands).
Safety First!
Now, before you go running off to stomp on some Goombas or race against your friends in Mario Kart, there are some safety tips you should keep in mind.
Remember, the world of Mario can be a dangerous place, with perilous pits, spiky enemies, and even killer mushrooms.
So, if you’re planning on celebrating Mario Day by playing some games, make sure to take breaks, stay hydrated, and stretch your fingers to avoid any cramps.
Keep plenty of healing mushrooms handy in case you get hit.
Be careful not to accidentally jump into any pipes that lead to certain doom or worse.
And if all else fails, jump on your enemies’ heads. It’s the Mario way!
Press “Start”!
So, whether you’re a long-time Mario fan or a newcomer to the Mushroom Kingdom, there’s no denying the joy and fun that this iconic character brings to our lives.
So, grab your controller, don your red cap, and get ready to jump, stomp, and collect some coins.
Happy Mario Day, everyone!
