On the same day as Talk like a Pirate Day we also celebrate the cats who were considered to be very lucky to have as a ship mate.
Because “A cat on board keeps out the vermin-horde!“
Meowrrr mateys, ye landlubbers might be wonderin’ why we be celebratin’ Meow Like a Pirate Day!
A day fer us to honor the feline swashbucklers of the high seas, who prowl the decks of pirate ships with their tails held high.
The Origin of Meow Like a Pirate Day
But how did this fine holiday come to be? Well shiver me whiskers, the story be a mysterious one, with many a tale spun about its origins.
Some say it be started by a band of rogue cats who commandeered a ship and set off on a pillagin’ spree. Others say it be the idea of a group of cat-lovin’ pirates who wanted to give their furry friends a day of adventure.
So next time ye hear a cat say “Meowrrr!”, ye’ll know it’s a pirate cat ready to set sail on the high seas!
Cats with Maritime Jobs
But why, ye may ask, do cats make such fine pirate companions?
Fur starters, they be expert hunters, always on the lookout fer a tasty fish or keeping the rats away from our biscuits. Keeping one or more cats happy be very lucky! Especially them black cats.
They be quiet creatures, always sneakin’ about and keepin’ a low profile. Their sharp claws and quick reflexes make ’em fearsome in a fight. They be famous for their natural curiosity, always explorin’ the unknown and seekin’ adventure.
And lastly, they be independent creatures, not wantin’ to take orders from no one.
These qualities be perfect for a pirate’s life on the high seas!
Are Ship Cats Lucky Cats?
But be warned, not all cats be cut out fer the pirate life. Many a fine feline has met their doom on the high seas, unable to withstand the harsh conditions of life on a pirate ship. So, if ye be thinkin’ of turnin’ your kitty into a pirate, ye best be ready to provide all the necessary comforts and amenities to keep them safe and sound.
As lucky as cats on board may be, gettin’ yer furry matey in danger be very unlucky. Nothing angers the sea gods more than receivin’ a sad kitteh in Davy Jones’ locker!
‘Tis important to make sure ye ship be equipped with all the comforts a cat needs, such as a warm place to nap, plenty of fish to eat, and a scratchin’ post.
So if ye cat be showin’ interest in the pirate’s life, why, ye be the best mate a cat could ask fer! Teach ’em the ropes, help ’em find their sea legs, and soon enough they’ll be a full-fledged pirate, pillagin’ and plunderin’ like the best of ’em!
But be prepared that not all cats be content with the pirate’s life. Some might prefer to stay on shore, nappin’ in the sun and catchin’ some rays. And that be just fine, for not all cats be cut out fer the pirate’s life.
How to Celebrate
So how can ye show yer support fer International Meow Like a Pirate Day?
Why, ye can start by deckin’ out yer home in all manner of pirate and feline finery, of course! Dress up in yer finest pirate gear, hoist the cat-themed flags, and make a feast fit fer a pirate king.
Ye can even go on a treasure hunt, teach yer cat to safely walk the plank, or engage in a friendly game of cat-and-mouse.
Ye can even bake fish-shaped treats fer yer feline friends and wash ’em down with a mug o’ lactose-free milk.
And remember, not all cats be pirates, and not all pirates be cat-lovers. And watch out fer those rogue pirate cats! They be pillagin’ and plunderin’ at will, and might not take kindly to ye and yer furry friend.
So, if ye be encounterin’ a pirate cat on the high seas, be sure to show them the respect they deserve, or ye may find yerself walkin’ some slippery plank!
