Nanomónestôtse

When:
🗓️ Third Monday in October

Where:
🌐 Everywhere

Since:
1900-something

Created by Marion Young in the early 1900’s
☮️

This celebration of peace is a somewhat new holiday among some indigenous peoples of the Americas.
Marion Young wanted to pass on peaceful celebrations to later generations.
She chose the name because “nanomónestôtse” means “peace” in the Cheyenne language.
🕯️

The preparations consist of building miniature traditional villages, preparing the Nanomónestôtse meal and of course self-reflection about self improvement.
🥧
Nanomónestôtse is then celebrated on Friday.
Unless Friday is inconvenient, then the Saturday or Sunday will do.

The Nanomónestôtse meal is a healthy meal with foods that are Native to that part of America.
The model villages built during the preparations are proudly displayed as centrepieces around a nice candle.
