Oatmeal Monday was traditionally celebrated at Scottish universities as an extended weekend.
From the seventeenth to the late nineteenth centuries, students at Scottish universities were required to bring their own food and other supplies to campuses. Oatmeal was a popular staple.
Most student had their homes far away from campus.
Therefore students were given long weekends so they could travel to get the supplies.
Those long weekends became known as Oatmeal Mondays or simply Meal Mondays.
Stocking up on food has become a lot easier now we have stores (relatively) nearby and even online deliveries.
But checking up on your stocks every now and then can still be handy when it comes to supplies that you only buy once in a year or every few years.
Check your closets and make a list of stuff that you need to refill or even refresh so you stay safe this year from running out of essentials.
