It’s time to break all the rules and let loose with Open an Umbrella Indoors Day!
☂️

On March 13th, we’re encouraged to break one of the most sacred rules of indoor etiquette and open our umbrellas indoors!
It all started back in 2003 when the great Thomas Edward Knibb had a vision. A vision of a world where people weren’t afraid to be a little daring, not afraid to open up!

The purpose of Open an Umbrella Indoors Day is to let go of etiquette and superstition.

Umbrellas have a rich history, dating back to ancient Egypt, where they were used to protect royalty from the scorching sun. Today, they serve as both practical protection from the rain and as fashionable accessories.
Did you know that in Hindu mythology, the god Indra was said to carry a celestial umbrella that protected the world from evil? Or that in ancient Greece, the goddess Iris used an umbrella made of rainbow to transport messages between the gods and mortals? The world of umbrellas is full of fascinating stories and legends, just waiting to be discovered.

But why March 13th?

Well, it’s said that opening an umbrella indoors on this day will bring seven years of good luck. But beware, if you dare to open an umbrella indoors on any other day, you’ll risk incurring the wrath of the umbrella gods and end up with seven years of bad luck.

What’s the difference between an umbrella and a parasol?

Umbrellas are great for rainy days, while parasols are best for sunny days.
Umbrellas have been used for centuries to keep people dry, while parasols have been used for centuries to keep people cool and fashionable. The parasol has also been used as a symbol of power and status, while the umbrella has been used as a symbol of practicality and function.

So, why celebrate Open an Umbrella Indoors Day?

It’s a great way to get in touch with your inner child and have a little fun. Plus, it’s a chance to show off your finest umbrella collection and your skills at duck-and-dodge. Finally, they make good weapons against zombies and people who try to sell you magazine subscriptions.

How to celebrate?

First and foremost, make sure you have a good sturdy umbrella. And not just any old umbrella, but the best umbrella you can find, preferably one with a fun pattern or quirky design. Check for holes, make sure the handle is secure, and practice your duck-and-dodge skills. Safety first, people!
Then with or without activating the sprinklers, do a cute umbrella dance. Use the umbrellas as party decoration.  Challenge your friends to an indoor umbrella duel. Or have an indoor picnic under your umbrella.

But be warned, opening an umbrella indoors can be dangerous.
Always make sure you don’t poke anyone’s eye out. Be careful of indoor tornadoes and don’t tempt gravity with the umbrella.

☂️
And if you’re not in the mood to celebrate Open an Umbrella Indoors Day, that’s okay too!
You can always opt for the safer route and simply enjoy the rain from the comfort of your window.
At least remember to bring a towel.
