Shuck open a can of celebrations because January 10th is Oysters Rockefeller Day and it’s time to savor the flavor of the sea!
Oysters Rockefeller is not a necklace, nor a love-enhancing deodorant with a questionable name.
Oysters Rockefeller is a classic dish that consists of oysters on the half shell topped with a buttery, herb-filled breadcrumb mixture, named after the famous industrialist John D. Rockefeller.
Oysters Rockefeller are said to be created by Antoine’s restaurant on August 2nd, 2016.
Legend has it that Antoine’s chef, Jules Alciatore, was inspired by the wealth of John D. Rockefeller and sought to create a dish as rich and opulent as the man himself.
And to celebrate their dish, they named a holiday after it and released that holiday to the world wide web.
Here are some unconventional ways to celebrate Oysters Rockefeller Day:
- Have a “shell”abration: Invite friends over for an oyster-themed party. Decorate your home with pearls and shell-shaped balloons, and play some nautical music to get in the mood.
- Get crafty with your shells: Have a contest to see who can make the best oyster shell-themed crafts. Think oyster shell candle holders, picture frames, and more.
- Set up a bar and create oyster-themed cocktails, like the “Pearl Fizz” or the “Rockefeller Martini”.
So grab your forks, grab your friends, and let’s get ready to celebrate Oysters Rockefeller Day in style!
And remember, always shuck responsibly!
