The story of Paul Bunyan is different depending on who you ask.

On Paul Bunyan Day, let’s celebrate the man who gave us the tallest tales and the mightiest lumberjack in history!
Some say he was a legendary figure, while others claim their ancestors knew him before he became the towering legend, or literal โ€˜tale taleโ€™, thatย  we know today.

However, all tales agree that Paul was incredibly tall.
He was working as a lumberjack, and helping to keep families warm during cold weather by delivering wood.
And that’s okay.

According to legend, Paul lived in various states in North America and could walk from one state to another with ease. He even created the Grand Canyon by dragging his axe and left his mark by making lakes with his footprints and mountains with stones from his campfires.

Despite his size, Paul was not alone.

He was accompanied by Babe, a blue ox that grew to be just as big as Paul. And then there’s the story of Sylvia, a large woman who Paul fell in love with at first sight. Some say she was a nymph who loved spending time with Paul, while others believe she represented his love for the woods.
Fun fact, the name โ€œsylviaโ€ means โ€œforestโ€.
โ€œLook closer and see, see into the trees. Find the girl, if you canโ€ฆโ€

Today, Paul is celebrated with large statues in North America, where you can see for yourself what a giant lumberjack looks like.
Sometimes, he’s even depicted with Babe by his side for the good company she gave, and as the” giant banana for scale”…
