Once upon a time in Ottery St. Mary a bishop decided to banish the faerie folk of East Devon for not fitting into the christian belief system.
He installed loud church bells to scare and harm them.
The rule of pixies and spirits came to an end from then on…except for every year on the Saturday nearest to Midsummer Day pixies will come in hordes to capture the town’s bell ringers and imprison them in Pixies Parlour until the bell ringers get rescued again.

Each year on Pixie Day the event of pixies capturing the bell ringers is enacted by local children groups.
This is accompanied by celebrations and concluded with fireworks.
