Ready, Set, Play Fetch!

Puppies don’t care if you’re having a bad hair day or if your stock portfolio just tanked.
They have a unique ability to melt away stress, fill our days with laughter and teach us valuable lessons about loyalty and companionship.
Puppy Day isn’t just an excuse to flood your Instagram feed with adorable furballs (although, let’s be honest, that’s a pretty sweet perk).
It’s also a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and supporting animal shelters. From teaching kids about empathy and compassion to promoting adoption over pet shop purchases, Puppy Day is all about appreciating the furry companions who make our world a brighter place.

The Tail Wags Behind Puppy Day

In 2006, Colleen Paige, animal behaviorist, pet lifestyle expert and the mastermind behind numerous pet-related celebrations, set out to create a day dedicated to celebrating puppies and raising awareness about responsible pet ownership. Thus, National Puppy Day was created.
But why stop at “National” when puppies are universally adored? It’s Puppy Day, folks and it’s time to unleash the woof-tastic festivities!

Colleen envisioned Puppy Day as a way to bring attention to the two sides of the puppy coin. First, of course, there is the immense joy these little furballs bring into our lives, but also the problem of the countless puppies in shelters and puppy mills instead of a loving home.
Her hope was that Puppy Day would inspire people to consider adopting a shelter pet or donating to organizations working tirelessly to improve the lives of puppies everywhere.

Since its inception, this tail-wagging occasion has gained traction faster than a puppy chasing its own tail.
Today, Puppy Day is a beloved annual event, bringing dog lovers together to celebrate the furry friends who enrich our lives.

Puppy Day quickly gained traction online and through social media, snowballing into a heartwarming global phenomenon.

Raise the Woof for Puppy Day!

So, you want to join the Puppy Day fun but don’t know where to start?

  • Shower your pup with love:
Take them for an extra-super-long walk, play fetch in the park, or simply snuggle on the couch. Extra belly rubs, a new squeaky toy, or a delicious treat. Let your furry friend know how much they mean to you!
  • Donate to a shelter:
Help support local shelters by donating much-needed supplies such as food, toys, blankets, cleaning supplies or even your hard-earned cash. You could even organize a fundraiser or donation drive to support shelters and rescue groups in your community.
  • Volunteer at a shelter: Volunteer your time:
Shelters and rescue organizations can always use a helping paw. Offer to walk dogs, socialize puppies or help with other tasks. Every bit of love and socialization helps these furry friends find their forever homes.
  • Adopt, don’t shop: Consider adoption: Adopt, Don’t Shop:
Channel your inner superhero and rescue a puppy from a local pound or animal shelter. These fluffballs need your love and you’ll prevent puppy breeders from continuing their trade. Plus, adopting a puppy is like adding a sprinkle of stardust to your life.
If your heart (and home) have room for a furry friend, consider a visit to your local animal shelter and open your life to a pup in need of a forever home.
  • Foster a puppy:
Can’t commit to adoption just yet? Consider fostering a puppy in need of temporary care and love until they find their forever home.
  • Spread awareness:
Share photos of your furry friend, donate through a shelter’s social media page, or simply use the hashtags #PuppyDay and #NationalPuppyDay to raise awareness and encourage others to participate.

Remember, every act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a big difference in the lives of puppies everywhere.

Wag Those Tails

Got the zoomies? Sounds like you need a puppy playdate! Let’s make this Puppy Day the most pawsome one yet!
And if anyone wonders why you wear your favorite puppy hoodie to work (that one with the perky dog ears and paw prints), simply wag your tail and  inform them that Wild Calendar deems this perfectly acceptable attire for Puppy Day and invite them to join the fun!
May your hearts be as warm as a puppy’s belly after a nap.

Happy Puppy Day to everybuddy and let’s make fetch happen!
