In the May 14 2000 broadcast of Leshow, host Harry Shearer proclaimed that Mothers’ Day to be Respect for Chickens Day, claiming the chicken to be the ultimate symbol of motherhood.
Seeing the irony of how chickens in the industry are usually treated the UPC adopted this day to raise awareness of how most chickens are treated.
Chickens are amongst the world most eaten animals. For this purpose chickens are bred and raised with minimal costs and time as possible.
This industry approach means that chickens are amongst the world most mistreated animals because respect costs time and money and stands in the way of getting the most chicken wings for your money.
Chickens could use a little more respect. If you love chicken. Give them some respect and go for the organically grown chicken or the veggy nuggets.
Saving those few dimes may prevent a lot of pain.
