Restless Legs Awareness Day

When:
🗓️ September 23

Where:
🌐 Everywhere

Since:
2012❓

September 23 is the birthday of the Swedish neurologist professor Karl-Axel Ekbom who wrote the first doctoral thesis on Restless Legs Syndrome in 1945

Restless Legs Syndrome is also called Willis-Ekbom disease because the first person to describe RLS was Sir Thomas Willis
in the year 1672.

Thus, both the names of Sir Thomas Willis and
Professor Karl-Axel Ekbom are included in the name of the disease for their combined efforts.

Even though they lived centuries apart, writing down the knowledge was the bridge to new insights.
