Cool to know:
The creation of this day is officially unknown.
But very coincidentally this day the Who’s performance at The Valley sport stadium on May 31 1976 was recorded in the Guinness World Book of Records as the LOUDEST concert ever! It’s noted officially that the music reached 126 decibels, measured at a distance of 105 feet from the speakers.
Several bands, among which Manowar and KISS have had louder concerts since, but never reached this desired status as Guinness stopped including the category for worlds loudest band to discourage musicians from putting themselves and their audience at risk.
To get an idea of decibels:
Absolute silence is, of course, 0 dB
Breathing: 10 dBMosquito flying by: 20 dB
A whisper is about 25 dB
Hearing a bird sing in the tree nearby 40dB
Moderate rainfall: 50 dB
An average conversation at normal level is about 60 dB
Your vacuum cleaner probably reaches a 70 dB
Playing a violin is somewhere between 80 to 90 dB, so play gently.
Noises over 90 dB are becoming risky to sustain for longer times
That person who is always LOUD: 90 dB
Hearing a subway train go by: 95 dB
Gardening tools average about a 100 dB
A hungry baby: 110 dB
An average loud concert is about 110-115 dB.
A chainsaw is about 120 dB
125 dB is the painful level of sound.
You are now at The Who concert of May 31, 1976. Your ears will probably never forget this concert ever!
That very cherished car stereo at full blast from inside the car: 140 dB
An average gunshot: 140 dB
Fireworks going off next to your ear: 140-150 dB
150 dB will rupture your ear drums!
