Highland Tigers: Scotland’s wild heart. 🐾😼🏴
Meet the Highland Tiger
Scottish Wildcat Day is an annual event dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness about the Scottish Wildcat, a magnificent and sadly, critically endangered predator.
They’re solitary, stealthy and the last remaining native wild cat species in Britain who’ve prowled the Scottish highlands for millennia but are now staring down the barrel of extinction.
The Tail of the Scottish Wildcat Day
This pawsome event was created by Action for Earth, a group dedicated to keeping the purrfect balance in our ecosystems.
It’s a day to appreciate the wildcat’s contribution to our ecosystem and to inspire action to save them from the brink of extinction.
Think of it as the Highland Games, but with more fur and less caber tossing.
Fiercely Feline, Proudly Scottish
Imagine a tabby cat but crankier, craftier and with a touch more tiger swagger.
Scottish wildcats are bigger, burlier and with a bushy tail ending in a distinctive black tip.
9,000 years ago, these European wildcats wandered across a post-Ice Age land bridge into Britain, long before the common house cats would decide to domesticate humans in this part of the world.
Fast forward to today and habitat loss, relentless persecution and a bit too much fraternizing with domestic cats have have pushed this species to a point where the population is no longer viable.
Without immediate action, we risk losing the wildcats forever from our shores.
Pounce Into Action
On August 8th, we don’t just let the cat out of the bag, we celebrate it!
Support conservation efforts by donating to organizations like Action For Earth or volunteer for local wildlife projects.
Advocate for stronger wildlife protection laws and educate others about the wildcat’s plight.
Every little bit helps in keeping the spirit of the Scottish wildcat alive and well.
Go wild and spread awareness on social media (cat pictures are still the internet’s lifeblood) using the hashtag #ScottishWildcatDay.
Wear your finest kilt and fluffiest cat ears and tail, bake wildcat-shaped cookies or even organize a wildcat costume party.
Go wild, be curious and remember, if anyone questions your feline festivities, just tell them Wild Calendar sent you.
Better yet, invite them to join the wild fun!
Meow or Never!
August 8th is the day we swap our kilts for cat stripes And work together to ensure these wild kitties don’t become a ghost story.
Even small actions can have a big impact.
Now, go forth and spread the word about the Highland Tiger!
Happy Scottish Wildcat Day!
