Houston, We Have a Holiday!

From black holes to white dwarfs, from the mysteries of dark matter to the future of space travel, International Space Day is dedicated to exploring the final frontier.
International Space Day isn’t just any old day on the calendar, it’s a day that’s out of this world!

No Space Suit Required

On International Space Day, stargazers, space dreamers, organizations and agencies across the globe unite like constellations in the night sky to celebrate the marvels of space exploration.
From demonstrations to educational programs, there’s something for everyone to learn more about the vast unknown that surrounds our cozy home planet.
Boldly going where no one has gone before is just the beginning!

The Origin of International Space Day

International Space Day was originally created by the Lockheed Martin Corporation in 1997 as an one-day event aimed to inspire America’s youth to pursue studies in math and science and to encourage them to shoot for the stars, both figuratively and literally.

Fast forward to 2001 and thanks to the tireless advocacy of astronaut-turned-senator John Glenn, this one-day event rocketed into international status.

Today, International Space Day is celebrated globally and is considered a major event inspiring countless individuals to reach for the stars and beyond.

How to Celebrate:  One Small Step for You

There are tons of ways to celebrate International Space Day from the comfort of your own backyard (or living room, if your backyard isn’t quite spacious enough for a launchpad).

  • Visit a planetarium or watch a space documentary.
  • Dust off that old telescope, if you have one and spend the night lost in a constellation.
  • Many organizations offer online citizen science projects where you can contribute to real space research.
Help classify galaxies, search for exoplanets, or track asteroids. You could be the one to discover the next big thing!
  • Start your day with a zero-gravity breakfast and invite your friends for a “space travel” potluck.
Brew stellar shakes, cosmic cocktails, nutrition cookies, freeze-dried ice cream and absolutely nothing that will make crumbs in zero gravity!
  • Build your own rocket if you’re into rocket science. Or keep it simple by turning your living room into a mission control center. Either way, don’t forget to craft a mission patch for your own personal space agency.
  • Host a space movie marathon. Think classics like “2001: A Space Odyssey” or solid comedies like “Galaxy Quest”.

And don’t forget to proudly wear your best space-gear. After all, nothing says “celestial chic” like a pair of moon boots and a glittering galaxy-print jumpsuit! Yes, your neighbors might stare, but  just tell them Wild Calendar gave you permission.
Better yet, invite them to join in the fun. After all, space is vast and there’s room for everyone!

ET Phone Home!

No celebration is complete without sharing it with the world and any space travelers within wifi-range.
The universe is a vast and lonely place and who knows maybe some one else out there gets a chuckle from your post.
Grab your favorite multi-functional communicator and snap some pics of your stellar celebrations and share them on social media using the hashtags #InternationalSpaceDay #SpaceDay to connect with other stargazers.
Space may be the final frontier, but it’s also a journey that we’re all on together.

Beyond the Final Frontier

Whether you’re a seasoned astronomer or a starry-eyed dreamer, let’s raise our telescopes to the night skies and toast to the wonders of the cosmos. The sky’s not the limit when there are footprints on the moon. Earth is just our starting point and life’s too short to stay grounded when the universe is calling your name.

So, where will we go next?
And is warp speed going to be the new jet lag?
Strap in and prepare for liftoff!

Happy International Space Day!

Stop destroying our planet.
It’s where I keep all my stuff!

Astronomy Day

Astronomy Day is the perfect excuse to stargaze and ponder the universe. Bonus points if you can spot the International Space Station!🔭⭐
