World Tuberculosis Day commemorates the day on March 24, 1882 when Dr Robert Koch announced at the University of Berlin’s Institute of Hygiene that he had discovered the cause of tuberculosis, the mycobacterium tuberculosis (also known as “Koch’s bacillus).
In 1905 Koch would receive the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
