Walpurgis Night celebrates the catholic saint Saint Walpurga.
Walpurga or Walburga is considered the patron saint protecting against drowning, pest, rabies and witchcraft.
On Walpurgis Night, let’s all take a moment to remember the many innocent people accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake. Because nothing says ‘good times’ like hunting down women accused of witchcraft and subjecting them to a kangaroo court.
In honor of Walpurgis Night, let’s all take a break from the witch hunting and maybe try some actual critical thinking for once.
Walpurgis Night is traditionally celebrated by dancing around a bonfire that are made to scare away demons and witches and bonus points if a hapless misfit villager could be accused of being a witch and thrown into that fire.
Burning “witches” is no longer a morally acceptable tradition for a good reason.
For many people Walpurgis Night has been replaced by Hexennacht because witches are cool now.
