The hardest thing about nut milk is milking the almonds.

Greetings, my curious and food-loving friends and welcome to the wonderful world of plant milk!
Today, we’re diving into the wonderful world of plant milk, and more importantly, celebrating World Plant Milk Day!
It’s a day where we celebrate the deliciousness, versatility and environmental friendliness of plant milks.
If you’re a fan of plant-based diets, environmentalism, or just curious about new and exciting foods, then you’re definitely in the right place.
So, let’s dive into the creamy world of plant milks!

What are Plant Milks?

Let’s start with the basics.
Plant milk is a type of milk made from plant-based sources, such as soybeans, almonds, cashews, rice, or oats. It’s a white, opaque liquid that can be used in cooking and baking just like dairy milk.
Plant milks can be used just like milk cooking, baking, or as a drink, and are a popular choice for vegetarians and vegans due to their nutritional content.
They are rich in nutrients and can be consumed by anyone, including those who are vegan or vegetarian.
Each type of plant milk offers unique flavors, textures, and nutritional benefits, making them a great option for those following a vegetarian or vegan diet, anyone looking to reduce their dairy intake or just because you like the flavor.

The Dairy Debate

Plant milk has a rich history, with evidence of plant-based milks being consumed as far back as the 11th century.
Despite this, some argue that plant milks should not be called milk due to the confusion it causes with dairy milk for people who do not read the packages well.
The definition of milk has changed throughout history, or location,  though many plant milks have similar flavor, food preparation, and nutritional properties to dairy milk.
As the popularity of plant-based diets grows, some argue that the term “milk” should be expanded to include plant-based milk alternatives.
After all, plant milk is used as milk. Should we also restrict the definition of “vegetable” to exclude tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers and store them with their fellow fruits instead? Should we put root beer in the liquor department?
When it comes to flavor, food preparation, and nutrition, plant milks are surprisingly similar to dairy milk.
Regardless of your stance on the issue, it’s worth considering the historical definition of milk and how it has evolved over time. Almond milk and coconut milk have been called milk for centuries. If that isn’t a tradition then what is?

The Origin of World Plant Milk Day

World Plant Milk Day is celebrated annually on August 22nd. It was created in 2017 Robbie Lockie, Co-founder of Plant Based News to raise awareness of the many benefits of plant-based milks and encourage people to try them out for themselves.
The day also serves as a celebration of the growing plant-based movement and the positive impact it can have on our health and the environment.

  • Practice safe food handling and preparation. Keep your hands clean and wash those glasses.
  • And if you find yourself engaged in sedentary activities, don’t forget to take breaks and get up for a little dance or do some stretching.
