The Green Lungs of Our Planet

Rainforests are dense forests that receive high amounts of rainfall, making them home to a vast array of biological diversity.
These forests are spread across the tropical regions of the world, including South America, Africa and Southeast Asia.
They are home to countless species of flora and fauna, many of which are still undiscovered.
Rainforests play a crucial role in our environment, as they absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, making them a vital component in regulating our planet’s climate.

Unfortunately, due to deforestation, climate change and other human activities, rainforests are under threat due to deforestation, mining, and climate change.

The Origin of World Rainforest Day

World Rainforest Day was created by The Rainforest Partnership to raise awareness about the importance of rainforests and the threats they face due to deforestation and climate change.
They chose June 22 as the date for this holiday as it coincides with the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

How to Celebrate World Rainforest Day

Celebrating World Rainforest Day can be as simple or elaborate as you want it to be.

  • Dress up in style and wear green or tropical-themed attire.
  • Take a walk in a nearby park or forest and appreciating the beauty of nature.
  • Plant a tree in your backyard.
Or something smaller, just pick something that will create more biodiversity in your garden.
  • Decorate your home with rainforest plants and animals.
(Before you start sneaking animals from the zoo, let’s be clear that we’re talking about stuffed animals!)
  • Participate in events or join a local rainforest conservation group.
  • Throw a rainforest-themed party or picnic.
  • Organize a fundraiser to support rainforest conservation efforts.
  • You can even plan a trip to a tropical rainforest to experience it firsthand if you’re that adventurouw.
  • Share information about rainforest conservation on social media and encourage your friends and family to get involved.

World Rainforest Day is a day to celebrate and appreciate the critical role that rainforests play in our planet’s health and well-being.
And if anyone asks why you’re celebrating with a rainforest themed cocktail bar in your backyard just tell them Wild Calendar gave you permission to do so.

Happy World Rainforest Day!
