Life is like a bowl of ice cream – sometimes it’s a little rocky.

Do you remember the folk song “Rocky Road to Dublin”?
It’s time to put that on your playlist because today we’re celebrating Rocky Road Day, a holiday that deserves all the hype!
Rocky road isn’t just a bumpy path, it’s a sweet, delicious treat that deserves recognition.
And this sweet version of the famous song is even more delicious than the original!

“Rocky Road to Candy Land” by the Macaroon Minstrels

Well, in the chocolate factory, with a spoon I started
Gathered all the nuts and marshmallows broken-hearted
Saluted the chef, packed some soda water
Ate a piece of fudge, to smother all the bother
Then off to melt the bars and mix in all the jars
Cut the nuts so fine, to banish all the boring
brand new batch of fudge to mix with all the nuts
And tempting all the guts, with the rocky road to Candy Land

[Chorus]
Scoop, chop, melt and mix
Raise the bar we’re gonna make some rocky road
and boldly face the sugar rush, whack-fol-la-de-da !

In the freezer that night I let it rest so chilly
Started to devour next morning light and silly
Took a bite so pure, to keep my sweet tooth cravin’
That’s the candy cure whene’er I’m on for munchin’
To hear my friends so sweet, laughing all the while
At my chocolate style, it would set their teeth a-bubblin’
They asked me for the recipe and calories required
‘Til I was almost tired of the rocky road to Candy Land

[Chorus]
Scoop, chop, melt and mix
Raise the bar we’re gonna make some rocky road
and boldly face the sugar rush, whack-fol-la-de-da !

In Candy Land next arrived, I thought it such a pity
To be soon deprived of my batch so pretty
Then I took a stroll, all among the sweet shops
A candy store so bold, filled with sweet lollipops
Something crossed my mind, when I looked behind
No candy could I find, my sweet tooth was a-throbbin’
Enquiring after the sweets, said the candy clerk so neat
It wasn’t much in stock on the rocky road to Candy Land

[Chorus]
Scoop, chop, melt and mix
Raise the bar we’re gonna make some rocky road
and boldly face the sugar rush, whack-fol-la-de-da !

From there I got away, my appetite never failing
Landed in the store, just as the sweets were sailing
Clerk at me roared, said that no room had he
When I took a bite, a sugar rush found for Paddy
Down among the sweets, did some hearty eats
I played some sugary beats, the wrappers round me rustling
When I finished off, I wished I had some more
Or better far instead on the rocky road to Candy Land

[Chorus]
Scoop, chop, melt and mix
Raise the bar we’re gonna make some rocky road
and boldly face the sugar rush, whack-fol-la-de-da !

The kids in the neighborhood, well when they came to taste it
Called me a candy god, I could no longer resist it
Sugar rush began to boil, my mood was so amusing
Poor old dentist’s toil, they knew they’d be losing
“Hurrah, me teeth,” says I, my candies I’ll apply
Sweet tooth boys were by and saw I was a-chompin’
With a low a’ “hurray!” they joined in the sugary fray
Quickly clear the way for the rocky road to Candy Land

What is Rocky Road:

Rocky road is a no-bake slice made from melted chocolate, marshmallows, nuts, broken cookies, dried fruits and other ingredients. It’s different from other chocolate with added stuff because it has way more variety of added stuff.
And no, it’s definitely not the same as your melted stash of Halloween candy from last year. Don’t even try to pass that off as Rocky Road!

The Origin of Rocky Road Day

The origin of this holiday is unclear, but we like to think it was invented by a group of chocolate-loving rebels who wanted to break free from the monotony of plain old chocolate bars.
And we thank them for it.

What Makes Rocky Road Different:

What sets rocky road apart from other chocolate with additives is its texture. It’s a combination of soft, gooey marshmallows, crunchy nuts, and smooth, creamy chocolate. Every bite is like a flavor explosion in your mouth, and you can’t help but want more.

Celebrating the Holiday:

To prepare for this holiday, make sure you stock up on all the ingredients you need to make rocky road.
You don’t want to be caught without any chocolate or marshmallows on this special day.
Also, make sure you have plenty of containers to store your rocky road in, so you can indulge in it all day long.

If you want to make your own rocky road, it’s actually pretty easy.
Melt some chocolate, mix in some everything sweet, nutty or cookie you can find, and maybe even something wild like chili peppers if you like to live dangerously, and voila! You have a homemade batch of rocky road!
Who knows, you might come up with a new flavor that becomes your new favorite.

You can also have a rocky road ice cream party, where everyone brings their favorite toppings to add to their ice cream.
And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try making a giant rocky road cake!
